I was surprised to discover that so much of Dillard’s life followed that of the author. When reading about Caroline’s (Dillard’s wife) battle with breast cancer in book it had a ring of truth. Now I know he was writing from his own experience. Like Dillard, he also had two children a boy and girl.”
