Unabridged
Six weeks ago, the mysterious virus came out of nowhere and engulfed the world.
Jeff Blaine did his best to hold his family together and to protect them from the horrors scratching at their door, but in the end, they were ripped away from him like everything else that ever mattered.
Lost and alone, Jeff’s only option is to destroy as many of the monsters as he can. But when he discovers Megan, George, and Jason, three other survivors not interested in giving up just yet, he reluctantly accepts that there might still be a reason to fight and live to see another day.
Traveling through the blasted landscape of their new fallen world, the quartet discovers that the living dead aren’t the only danger with which they must cope. Even other survivors who promise safety and security from the hordes of ghouls roaming the wastelands will test loyalties and their faith in humankind.
Jeff and his small band of newfound friends must forge a semblance of life in the newly blighted world. And they will have only the light of their own humanity by which to navigate as everything around them descends into the dark.

I just finished audiobook 1 and 2 of the dark trilogy and I feel the need to write down my frustrations.
Personally I love the classic zombie books, I enjoyed the Z.A. Recht trilogy ALOT even though the last book was a bit of let down (author died, ending was written by someone else). Day by Day armageddon trilogy was awesome aswell and Zombie Fallout books are also great in my opinion. Now my frustrations with Patrick’s trilogy. I enjoyed the 2 first books alot but some parts really bugged me. *Spoiler alert*
Jeff starts out as a normal guy that decides to go fuck-it-all style, which suited him quite well. Throughout the first book he shows the reader he’s smart and pretty crazy which suits him. The details the writer puts in the relationships of the main characters and the surrounding situations like fights etc are really good to connect with the characters and the situations they’re struggling with, but the overabunce of details in the middle of a gunfight or a dangerous situation sometimes removes the excitement of the (dangerous) moment, it almost feels like the fight itself is not that important just the detailled description of it. Also the 2 books are spread out over about a week which also makes it difficult to keep the action going because a full book over 2.5 days is always gonna have alot of details because how much can really happen in less than 3 days. I guess that’s why the books are quite short. In book 2 it’s basically completely about the camp they find themselves in and worse it seems that Jeff changed from a withy and crazy to a more submissive Jeff whom constantly bikkers and argue’s with the aggressive camp leaders yet never really seems to show the dominance he showed in the first book. The ease by which Jeff basically accepts his situation at the camp and basically screws George by not being his dominant self even though we can all see that this Michael makes so many stupid decisions like the walking scavage in the city that basically fucks em all. Yet Jeff never seems to point out Michaels mistakes nor does he take control of the situation. It just doesn’t to fit and I was irritated more than once by how casual they turned submissive, no plans by the original characters to take off, take over or whatever. I hope the third book get’s him back in the leader position cause it just makes more sense. You don’t go from Rambo to Vince Vaughn just because there is some dick telling you you can’t go. Even though the entire book you have a pistol in your pocket (even if it’s a small one).
Just my 2 cents, sorry for the long comment but I had to ventilate…
