I dislike this narrator, for a Scandinavian book it’s totally off. I found another narrator who is amazing with the pronunciations, but the edition is translated in 1922 and sounds old and she talks too fast and without enough emotion. No one has done a good job narrating these books IMO.

@Merida769: Undset is great, although I didn’t explore her literature until recently. :)

@Koshuyawa: Luckily for your exacting standards, ebooks and paperbacks are always an option.

My standards are not “exacting”, I made a critical observation about a work of art and it is precisely articulated, you don’t need to criticize me for doing that. I’ve listened to over a thousands audiobooks, many by LibriVox, I’m not terribly picky but a classic Nobel-winning novel like this, professionally produced, it’s incredible they can’t find someone with a Scandinavian or even Germanic accent. Or even someone with a classic-sounding voice appropriate for an old novel. The novel as a whole is still copyright, translation anyway, so we get 1 option and this is it. The other version I found is for Blind and Handicap. The rights are locked up with this one narrator for at least 7 years but probably longer.

The translation of the first book, Bridal Wreath, entered the public domain on January 1, 2019. Hopefully some of the Germanic accented readers at LibriVox will try it.

Criticise you? Hardly. You claimed to dislike all the audiobooks produced of a particular book - on an audiobook site, incidentally - ergo, I stated that printed books were a viable option for you.

There was no argument here for me to defend or justify - you were merely stating a personal preference/opinion that had nothing to with the quality of the files in the upload which is ultimately all I am responsible for, its artistic merit (or the lack thereof) is not something I need to or want to defend.
