Award-winning journalist David Neiwert—who has been following the rise of these extremist groups since the late 1970s, when he was a young reporter in Idaho—explores how the movement was built over decades, how it was set aflame by Donald Trump and his cohorts, and how it will continue to attack American democracy for the foreseeable future. Neiwert especially studies how the Pacific Northwest has long been a breeding ground of extremist violence, from the time when neo-nazis migrated to the area from southern California in the 1970s, through the great battles in Portland and Seattle and neighboring towns over the last decade.
Laying out how these groups organize their terroristic violence and attacks on democratic institutions at every level—including local, state, and federal targets—Neiwert details what their strategies and plans look like for the foreseeable future.

America was never intended to be a democracy: the pilgrims on the Mayflower were searching for a country where they could impose a theocracy on the natives; the War of Independence was fought to defend chattel slavery from a world where it was rapidly disappearing.
And ‘No taxation without representation.’ is probably the first great advertising hoax. The folk who bought it, thought they were getting representation. The people who sold it (all of whom ended up in government) knew they were selling taxation (to pay their own stipends).
America has never been happy with the will of the people; it was invented to be authoritarian.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It’s like the first sixty books written each year on exactly the same thing were. . . okay but I’m still about a book away from being totally sure who the bad guys are, who’s dangerous.
But I’m sure this one is the one that’s really going to change minds.
I mean, the minds of the people who don’t need to constantly read and re-read the narrative they think is cool to parrot.

The rights knee jerk reaction to any criticism is perplexing. Are you all so insecure? If you want an authoritarian government fine, move to Hungary or Russia and enjoy. If the constitution is thrown out say goodby to it all, 2nd amendment included. Leave the US system alone as it works for the majority of its citizens.

The title of this dreck is hysterical. It should read ‘The Age of Insurrection: The Radical Left’s Assault on American Democracy.’ Easy for the “democrats” to misrepresent the realities of an oppressive regime and its sycophants. The democrat’s “non-existent” militia and domestic terrorist group ANTIFA performed admirably when called upon to wreak havoc on person and property while stealing anything that was not bolted down. Recall, the Democrats “Summer of Love” in Seattle. I do not believe CHOP (Capitol Hill Occupied Protest) was initiated by constitutional conservatives. The Left’s racism, sexism, and intolerance, continues to be the money-maker. If the checks are being written, i.e., BLM, etc., we will continue to empower these ignoble savages.
